How to Locate Journals

Searching For the Journal

You can search for journals by selecting 'Journals' when you do an item search in the catalog. Or we have a journals list which includes the electronic & print journals subscribed by the UWest Library. Click the letters or type the journal titles into the search box to find a particular title. Omit the article 'the' or 'a'.

For example: Enter "Psychology Today" for Psychology Today magazine.
For example: Enter "New Yorker" for The New Yorker magazine.

Locating the Journal

Once a particular title is chosen, the source for the journal title will appear. If the source indicated the name of an electronic database along with an URL, it means this journal title is included in that database. You may click on the URL to access the database. The journal articles could be listed in abstract or full text. Full text can also be requested through the document delivery. Please ask a library staff member if you are new to using the electronic databases.

For example, this is the result for Psychology Today:

ID Title Serial Coverage Source
8036  Psychology Today    (v.34 no.1) 2001 -  In Library
8035  Psychology Today  0033-3107  1/1/1986-  Proquest

This record indicates the UWest library has a printed copy of the magazine starting from 2001. However, the Proquest database has more back issues with a mix of abstracts and full text articles that you can access online by clicking on the link provided under the URL heading.
