11/20/06: Dr. Maquet donates 1,100 books to UWest library

Dr. Jacques Maquet, professor emeritus of the University of California, Los Angeles, has graciously donated 1,100 books to our UWest library. Dr. Maquet holds doctorate degrees in law, philosophy, social anthropology, and literature. He is also a writer, his books include "The Sociology of Knowledge", "The Premise of Inequality in Ruanda" and many more. "Monastic Communities in Sri Lanka and in other national contexts in Asia" and "Sociocultural significance of Buddhism for contemporary issues in Asia" are amongst his various projects.

Dr. Maquet's books will not only improve our existing humanities selection, but since a significant portion of the donated books are written in French, they will constitute a new foreign language collection for the library. Patrons of the library will soon be able to peruse through these new books as cataloging is currently underway.
